I chase that wily thief: Time
My only weapon: a butterfly net
He slips through again
My nerves screech with desire
I have a small petition, if he'll only stop to listen
Four more for the day
Four more for the night
Just eight more hours to stretch each day
An infinite gift from such a small change
At nightfall, head nodding as I slump toward slumber,
I feel that dull indigestion of halted progression.
Eight more, please, to help me rule what is mine.
Oh, definitely! With 8 more, we could rule the world!
ReplyDeleteIf there were more hours in the day, I think I would be dead. This is a very cool concept you have explored under the theme of eight.
ReplyDeletethe weight of eight make us ever wait
ReplyDeleteI have often wished so, but not quite as wittily. And now I am glad I did not get my wish! Love this.
ReplyDeleteInteresting concept! Great title choice...helps bring clarity to the piece. :)
ReplyDeletelove this line, love it: "I have a small petition, if he'll only stop to listen."
ReplyDeleteOnly 8 more. Ha! Cool poem.
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me that still wouldn't be enough.
ReplyDeleteI liked the same line as Marian..."I have a small petition, if he'll only stop to listen." If there were eight more hours, I might get enough sleep. I'm such a night-owl, I'm always exhausted.
ReplyDeleteTime and tide, however, wait for no one.

Oh to have eight more hours, but then I would be screaming for more. Love your take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteThis is really clever, tacking more time onto the day and night. Hmm, just not sure if I'd want that or not... must think about that, zzzzzz
ReplyDeleteAnd we'd still ask for more. Because we are human :)
ReplyDeletePretty cool poem. But if I'm this tired NOW, what would happen if I had to flog myself even more? I'd likely post one last Toad "ribbut" and fall into the pond for good. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteFirst time here - thanks for posting to Real Toads, Cami. Four for the day, four more each night... love how you divvied that up. I have no conception of time, so I'd probably waste it! All the same, a very clever take on the prompt. Loved it! Amy (yes, a Toad)
ReplyDeleteYes, please. Well said, and much needed.
